Muleshoe a cooperative management area is comprised of 49,120 acres and has 7 permanently flowing streams which makes it a very important area for the support of wildlife. It is part of the Galiuro Wilderness and it's highest peak, Bassett, tops 7,650 ft.

We started out the day meeting our fellow jeepers at the donut shop on Ocotillo at 8am(Sue and I passed on the donuts). We set out on Pomeraine road to 3 links road to Muleshoe Ranch road, about 45 miles away. We entered the preserve with the intention of reaching Jackson Cabin some 14 miles away. The going was rough and slow(4-5 miles per hour) and unfortunately we ran out of time required to reach the cabin while we were still able to return in the daylight. There are other cabins in the preserve that you can rent for $15.00/night, basic shelter with wood stove.
